Thank you, Sustainability Victoria: where to find key circular economy resources from 30 June 2026
Following the Independent Review of the Victorian Public Service led by Helen Silver AO, the Victorian Government has determined that Sustainability Victoria will close on 30 June 2026.
For more than 20 years, Sustainability Victoria has played an important role in helping households, councils, businesses, industry and community organisations reduce waste, improve resource recovery and build momentum towards a more circular economy.
For Sports Environment Alliance community, that work has mattered.
From circular procurement and recycled-content products to practical behaviour change campaigns, Sustainability Victoria has helped turn big-picture sustainability goals into resources, tools and programs that organisations can actually use.
As Sustainability Victoria winds down, several important resources will continue in new homes or remain available during transition periods.
Buy Circular Directory
The Buy Circular Directory, which features more than 100 suppliers of recycled and circular products, will transition to ecologiQ.
This is excellent news for councils, venues, infrastructure teams, procurement leads and organisations looking to make better purchasing decisions.
ecologiQ is a Victorian Government initiative within the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority, focused on increasing the use of recycled and reused materials across Victoria’s major infrastructure projects. Its work supports the delivery of the Recycled First Policy, helping make recycled materials a stronger part of Victoria’s road, rail and infrastructure pipeline.
The Buy Circular Directory and other resources will remain available through the Sustainability Victoria website until the end of August. Some downtime is expected while the directory is integrated into the ecologiQ website.
For questions about ecologiQ or its resources, contact: ecologiQ@vida.vic.gov.au
Circular Economy 101 and Circular Procurement 101
Sustainability Victoria’s Circular Economy 101 and Circular Procurement 101 courses are also expected to appear on the ecologiQ website over the coming months.
These courses have been valuable entry points for organisations wanting to understand circular economy principles and how to apply them through purchasing, operations and planning.
For sport, venues and events, circular procurement is a practical lever. It can influence everything from uniforms, infrastructure and signage to catering, packaging, furniture, flooring, maintenance and event delivery.
Small Acts, Big Impact campaign materials
The Small Acts, Big Impact campaign materials will remain available for councils and stakeholders to download via the existing link and current login.
For future initiatives, councils and stakeholders are encouraged to follow the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action website and social media channels.
Circular economy information and Victorian Government resources

Sustainability Victoria has also published information on transferring and closed programs, which outlines where key programs and resources will sit after the organisation closes.
A lasting contribution
Sustainability Victoria’s closure marks the end of an important chapter, but not the end of the work.
Its legacy can be seen in the systems, partnerships, resources and practical tools it helped build across Victoria.
In his final reflection, Sustainability Victoria CEO Matt Genever thanked the many collaborators across government, academia, community, business and industry who have worked with the organisation over the past 21 years.
He also shared a clear message for what comes next:
“We hope everyone who has worked with Sustainability Victoria over the last 20 years will carry on our legacy: driving change to reduce emissions and support Victoria’s transition to a fully circular economy.”
SEA thanks Sustainability Victoria and its people for their contribution to Victoria’s sustainability journey.
For our members and wider network, the message is simple: keep using the resources, keep asking better questions, and keep building circular economy thinking into sport, venues, events and procurement.
