Sydney Motorsport Park recognised among world’s leading sustainable motorsport circuits
Sydney Motorsport Park has been recognised among the top 16 most sustainable permanent motorsport circuits in the world in the 2026 Sustainable Circuits Index™.
The global index, developed by Enovation Consulting and independently verified by the UCL School of Management, assesses the sustainability performance of motorsport venues around the world. The 2026 edition reviewed 115 circuits, including 94 permanent venues and 21 temporary circuits, against 21 criteria spanning environmental, social and governance performance.
Sydney Motorsport Park’s result places the Western Sydney venue alongside some of motorsport’s most iconic circuits, including Monza, Suzuka and Spa-Francorchamps. It also maintains its position as the highest ranked circuit in Australia, a standing it has held since the index was first published in 2021.
The recognition reflects a strong year of action across Sydney Motorsport Park’s day-to-day operations, including:
76% day-to-day landfill diversion
Nearly $300,000 in donated venue hire
More than 90,000 coffee cups recycled — enough to cover more than two laps of SMSP
For SEA, the result is a reminder that sustainability in sport is not limited to major event moments. It is built through consistent, practical decisions across operations, procurement, waste, community engagement and long-term planning.
The Sustainable Circuits Index also highlights the broader shift underway across global motorsport. Circuits are increasingly being assessed not only on their environmental performance, but on how they contribute to local communities, improve accessibility, strengthen governance and respond to the growing impacts of climate change.
As motorsport venues continue to evolve into year-round destinations for sport, entertainment, business and community events, their potential impact grows too. That makes transparent benchmarking, practical progress and industry leadership more important than ever.
SEA congratulates Sydney Motorsport Park, including Ian Hansen, Membership, Community and Sustainability Manager, and the wider team behind this achievement.
This is a fantastic example of an Australian venue embedding sustainability into everyday operations and helping demonstrate what progress can look like across the sport and events sector.
