Recycling takes centre court for Melbourne tennis clubs
Community tennis clubs across Melbourne are proving that sustainability can deliver real, practical benefits both on and off the court.
East Ringwood Tennis Club and Parkdale Tennis Club have collectively raised almost $1,400 through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic), turning eligible bottles and cans into funding for much-needed club upgrades while reducing waste and litter.
By embedding container collection into everyday club activities, East Ringwood Tennis Club has raised more than $900, funding new net banners and working towards additional clubhouse improvements. Parkdale Tennis Club has taken a similar approach, using nearly $500 raised through CDS Vic to purchase durable seating made from recycled plastic, closing the loop on sustainability.
The success of both clubs highlights how simple, low-effort initiatives can create steady fundraising streams for grassroots sport, while supporting Victoria’s circular economy. With thousands of players inspired by the Australian Open each summer, CDS Vic and Tennis Victoria are encouraging more community clubs to get involved.
