Polytan joins SEA as Sustainability Partner for Sports Surfaces
Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to welcome Polytan Australia as our newest member and Sustainability Partner for Sports Surfaces.
As part of Sport Group, Polytan designs and delivers sports surfaces for facilities across Australia, with sustainability increasingly embedded in the materials, manufacturing processes and circular solutions behind those environments.
For Polytan, joining SEA is an opportunity to collaborate with organisations across the sporting ecosystem and help accelerate practical environmental action within sports infrastructure.
“Joining the Sports Environment Alliance as the Sustainability Partner for Sports Surfaces reflects Polytan’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future for sport,” said Anthony Kelly, General Manager, Polytan Australia.
“We believe collaboration is essential to driving meaningful environmental change across the sports industry. By working alongside like-minded organisations, we can share knowledge, accelerate innovation and help develop more sustainable sports infrastructure.
“Together, we can protect the places where we play while ensuring future generations continue to enjoy high-quality sporting environments.”
Adam Cheyne, CEO of Sports Environment Alliance, said Polytan’s experience and commitment would bring valuable expertise to the SEA network.
“Sports surfaces are a critical part of the places where we play, and they present a real opportunity for the industry to rethink materials, manufacturing and what happens at the end of a product’s life,” Adam said.
“Polytan brings practical experience, technical knowledge and a genuine commitment to collaboration. We’re pleased to welcome them to SEA and look forward to working together to help drive more sustainable outcomes across sports infrastructure.”
Sustainability is central to the work of Polytan and the broader Sport Group, with a focus on incorporating renewable and recycled materials into sports surface systems while improving durability, longevity and recyclability.
Through its Green Technology, Polytan uses renewable and recycled materials across a range of its surface systems to help reduce their environmental impact.
Closer to home, Polytan’s Australian manufacturing sister company, APT Asia Pacific, has partnered with Paintback to give unwanted household paint a second life. Recovered paint materials are used within the latex backing of synthetic turf products and in Laykold court systems, helping divert materials from waste streams and support more circular manufacturing practices.
Sport Group is also a founding partner of RE4ORM, Australia’s first synthetic turf recycling facility. The initiative is helping create a local pathway for recovering and recycling end-of-life synthetic turf, addressing one of the major sustainability challenges associated with sports surfaces.
These initiatives demonstrate how considered product design, industry partnerships and investment in recycling infrastructure can help reduce the environmental footprint of sporting facilities throughout their lifecycle.
SEA looks forward to working with Polytan and drawing on its expertise as we continue to connect the sports industry with the knowledge, partnerships and practical solutions needed to protect the places where we play.
