Meet our #SEAPartner - iEDM

The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) works to support #SEAMembers’ #ecojourneys through education, linking them to the wider sport and planet community, and celebrating their good {planet} leadership and actions.

SEA is proud to do this important work in collaboration with an incredible network of #SEAPartners - including iEDM.

iEDM - engineering, advisory, and project delivery

iEDM is a multi-disciplinary engineering, advisory, and project delivery firm with over 40 years of history in delivering dynamic projects. iEDM partners with clients to provide turnkey, design-led solutions for special projects.

The iEDM team has delivered projects across sectors such as sports, tourism, major events, entertainment, hotels, and urban infrastructure.

iEDM supports governments and large organisations across Australia with an integrated service offering across all phases of any given project. The company specialises in projects that are important, dynamic, fast paced, and involve complex stakeholder groups and are executed within the public realm.

Supporting the {sport & planet} movement

Joshua Ryan, Manager - Risk & Sustainability, explained that for iEDM, the decision to partner with SEA was driven by iEDM Chairman, John Howe.

“With over 40 years in the industry, John has seen the events barometer shift from an intense use of resources, with little consideration beyond the borders of the event site, to the current period in time where sports and event organisers are looking to give back to the local economy, society, and environment,” Mr Ryan said.

“It made complete sense to partner with SEA, because we believe that best results are driven through a collaborative approach in solving any problem.”

As an engineering advisory and project delivery firm in the sports and major events sector, iEDM wants to connect with other partners to offer clients innovative and fit-for-purpose products and services that make a genuine contribution to people, place, and planet.

Doing more {for the world} with less {footprint}

As a leader in environmental and sustainability services for events and major sports, iEDM aims to engage, educate, and empower sporting and event organisations to do more with less.

iEDM provides its clients with all the necessary tools to succeed in protecting the environment they operate in, and at the same time enhance sustainability. They offer a diverse range of services from the development of strategic ESG frameworks, that are aligned with organisational objectives, through to galvanizing sustainable practice into the supply chain - where it makes a genuine contribution to the planet.

The iEDM team consists of engineers, project managers, designers, operations managers, construction managers, quantity surveyors, sustainability experts, risk and safety professionals, and site personnel. With these skilled resources, iEDM provides clients with targeted advice and valuable, holistic management services in all disciplines.

A passion for sport and planet

Sport is a global pastime that has the ability to transform people, families, communities and countries.  This capacity to reach global audiences also provides an opportunity to deliver a powerful message that the planet on which we play needs to be cared for, Mr Ryan said.

“We are a family business with a lot of young iEDMers running around behind the scenes.  The entire premise of sport and sustainability as we see it, is to ‘play today and protect tomorrow.’ We must do everything in our power to give our kids the opportunity to grow up with a healthy sports industry played on a healthy planet now and into the future,” Mr Ryan said.

Australian Grand Prix - a case study

The 2022 Australian Grand Prix was a much-anticipated return of F1 to Melbourne. To assist the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) with the delivery of one of the largest overlay infrastructure builds in recent history, it took the integration of iEDM’s team into the AGPC team to work together, hand in glove, and ensure Albert Park remained accessible and safe with no lasting impact on the local environment.

Moreover, Mr Ryan explained that this event was a chance to obtain a baseline in waste generated and water and energy used.

“We have collected a lot of data related to energy and water usage, which we will review and present to AGPC.

“We are aiming to incorporate innovative solutions into the 2023 overlay design to reduce the water and energy usage. We have just begun our journey with the AGPC, but we are excited to be riding shotgun with them on their sustainability journey.”
