Geelong Football Club and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Join Sports Environment Alliance
Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is pleased to welcome Geelong Football Club and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust as new members, strengthening the growing movement to drive environmental sustainability across sport and recreation.
The two organisations join SEA with a shared commitment to reducing environmental impact and delivering more sustainable outcomes across the GMHBA Stadium precinct, one of Australia’s most iconic regional sporting venues.
For Geelong Football Club, membership reflects a continued focus on embedding sustainability into its operations and working collaboratively across the sector.
Oliver Gilbert, GM Strategy & Innovation, Geelong Football Club, said:
“Becoming a member of SEA is an important step for the Club as we continue to advance our commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Alliance provides a valuable platform to collaborate with other organisations, share best practice and accelerate collective action. This commitment aligns closely with our partnership with Kardinia Park Stadium Trust and our shared ambition to deliver more sustainable outcomes at GMHBA Stadium to make a positive impact for our community.”
The Cats have already introduced a range of practical initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint, including digital ticketing and an on-demand membership product model, which reduces waste by producing items only when ordered. In partnership with Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, the Club also supports stadium-wide waste reduction and recycling initiatives, helping to evolve matchday operations in a more sustainable direction.
Kardinia Park Stadium Trust brings a strong track record of environmental action within GMHBA Stadium.
Ben Scott, General Manager – Corporate Services and Major Projects, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, said:
“Kardinia Park Stadium Trust is delighted to be part of Sports Environment Alliance alongside Geelong Football Club.
We are focused on minimising our environmental impact, and being part of the Alliance strengthens our efforts. Having the opportunity to share knowledge with other members, network with like-minded organisations, and highlight our sustainability commitments and actions are key benefits.”
Over several years, the Trust has implemented a range of initiatives to improve sustainability outcomes, including the installation of LED sports lighting, development of an energy management system, installation of more than 900 solar panels on the Joel Selwood Stand, and the rollout of an improved waste management system. These initiatives support ongoing reductions in energy and waste across the precinct.
SEA CEO Adam Cheyne said the addition of both organisations highlights the growing leadership emerging from regional sport.
“Geelong Football Club and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust are showing what’s possible when clubs and venues work together with a shared purpose.
Their approach demonstrates how sustainability can be embedded into both operations and infrastructure, delivering real outcomes for their community while contributing to broader sector progress. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the Alliance.”
As SEA continues to grow its national network, the addition of Geelong Football Club and Kardinia Park Stadium Trust reinforces the critical role that clubs and venues play in shaping a more sustainable future for sport.
