Australia’s Leading Venues Commit to Green Sports Day 2025

Many of the nation’s most iconic sporting venues have confirmed their commitment to Australia’s Green Sports Day 2025, a global celebration of sport’s collective action on climate.

The Melbourne Cricket Club, AAMI Park, Optus Stadium, Allianz Stadium, the Victorian Institute of Sport, and the City of Launceston will light up Green, creating community awareness and support of the Green Sports Day this October. This is the start of a growing list of sporting venues and organisations demonstrating leadership in embedding environmental action within the sports industry, now and in the future.

Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) Chief Executive Officer, Adam Cheyne welcomed the strong early commitment from Australia’s major venues:

"Green Sports Day is not just a celebration, it’s a call for climate action for every sporting facility, club, and organisation. All sporting clubs, organisations, and their venues can make a difference by pledging to support Green Sports Day this October, taking the first of many tangible steps that add up to a big impact."

Cut waste and plastics
Improve recycling habits, upgrade signage, or commit to phasing out single-use plastics at your club.

Measure your impact
Conduct a sustainability audit, track your carbon footprint, or appoint a Green Champion in your club.

Switch to clean energy

GREEN SPORTS DAY
On 6 October 2025 Sports Environment Alliance hosts this global event in Australia for the first time. Established in 2016 in the US, Green Sports Day has inspired millions of sports fans and hundreds of organisations worldwide to use the power of sport to protect our planet.

This program brings that energy to our shores, uniting the Australian sporting community to turn passion into action. Together, we can harness the influence of sport to drive actual change, because without a healthy planet, there’s no game to play.
